Another cause can be a "lip" on the edge of the disc formed by natural wear. During severe frost or intense heating, the metal expands, and the pad's contact with this lip causes an unpleasant screech.

2. Metallic Squeal (Acoustic Wear Indication)

• Symptom: Many pads have metal tabs called "wear indicators" or "squealers." When the friction layer wears down to 2–3 mm, this tab touches the disc.
